This was for an anthology of illustrations of Fairy Tales. I draw that stuff so often that I wanted to try to make it a less traditional version of something. It took me a while to even decide on which fairytale to choose, I was initially thinking of sticking away from the common mainstream ones and go with some sort of obscure folklore. But, decided that it would be more of an exciting challenge to take something that has been done to death and try to find a new way to represent it. (I guess thats sort of the whole point of making art, isn't it?)
I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, and I am really into the queen's crazy snake eyes.
Love this. It's also a really nice touch that the whole illustration is contained within that gold frame (which looks like a mirror frame!)
